I don’t think I’ve ever shared a personal New Year’s resolution with anyone, but I almost always write out a short list of musical goals and projects I want to complete over the coming year. This year I’m excited enough about my short list to share some of it with everyone.

Where Is the Nature? (experimental electronic hip hop, Feb. 2018)

Since about this time last year, I’ve been jamming with my friend DJ SKOLi and we now have some tracks we’re stoked to share. SKOLi is a fellow deep sound explorer and a dedicated hip hop head, so our mixed bag (puréed blender?) of influences has helped us create some truly trippy sonic spaces and grooves. Catch the release Feb. 2nd at Tonic Room. This is just the start of what I hope will be an extended collaboration with many releases.

Calculated Discomfort (free jazz, spring 2018)

I’m launching a new series of releases in which I bring my favorite collaborators together with myself in a room and record group improvisations based on rudimentary compositions. The first installment of this conversational music experiment will drop at the end of March or early April. It’s mostly melodic and jumps between nuanced grooves and gorgeous ambient sections and I’m excited for you to hear it. I expect to release a follow-up later this year. Throughout everything else, I’m still working on a follow-up to Not Amazing. Many demos and rhythm section recordings already exist, but there’s still a lot of fun arranging and recording ahead. I promise accessible grooves, catchy tunes, and personal growth. It’ll be ready when it’s time.
